In 1998, the Mayor of Moscow Yury Luzhkov announced a competition for the best technology that would solve the ecological problems related to the contamination of the Moskva River. The best results were achieved using carbon materials developed by V. I. Petrik. That is how the first encounter and the subsequent friendship between Luzhkov and the Master came about.
