Creating this portrait, Master intended to reflect Yeltsin’s complex personality with his easily identifiable, opposing character traits, such as kindness and cruelty, sentimentality and cold irony of that life-hardened man who kept his warm heart and an ability to empathize.

 

These two portraits of the same man which differ from each other in, on the face of it, those barely perceivable psychological states, indicate that Master’s goal has been achieved.
